2nd Australasian Medical Aesthetic Congress

I have just returned from attending the Australasian Medical Aesthetic Congress held in Sydney. Although this congress is only in its second year, it is already proving to be one of the premier events on the cosmetic medicine calendar. The congress is unique in that it is dedicated entirely to cosmetic injectables. The attendance at the Congress is strictly by invitation only. The top 300 injectors in the Australasian region (as well as a handful from Japan) were invited and I was honoured to part of this contigent. The theme of this year’s congress is on Total Face assessment and treatment.

As those of you who have been following my website and blogs know, a holistic assessment underpinned by an understanding of the anatomical basis of ageing, with an artistic sensibility, is the hallmark of my approach. The subject of this congress is therefore very dear to my heart. The main message from the Congress is that assessment and treating the entire face will give a far more natural looking, longer lasting, more aesthetic outcome than focusing on wrinkles or any one aspect alone.

Several experts, from Australia and overseas, were the keynote speakers at the Congress and they demonstrated their expertise by treating real life patients on stage. Drs Arthur Swift and Raj Acquilla, from Canada and the UK respectively, were amongst the featured experts. They have been the greatest influence in my injecting career. I also enjoyed the demonstration by Dr Sarah Hart from New Zealand on her lip injection techniques. The presentations from these international experts showed great clarity, precision and insight. Their depth of knowledge was extraordinary and I am grateful for their generosity in sharing their wisdom and expertise. What they demonstrated on stage was nothing short of magic. I have been truly inspired.
